Our Team

At Oceans of Fun we are truly dedicated to the field of marine mammal science. Our staff includes professional marine mammal trainers, educators, and a leading marine mammal veterinarian who oversees our animals’ health and medical needs. All of our staff is trained in marine mammal care, training and guest interaction.

As animal trainers, our staff is well versed in positive reinforcement techniques.  Not only do they techniques work for our seals and sea lions, but we also like to rewarded our staff for a job well done! Each quater, one of our very talented staff members is nominated by their peers to recieve Slick's Tremendous Trainer Award. 

This quater's Tremendous Trainer is Haley!  Haley has been a trainer at Oceans of Fun for 5 years.  Her strong work ethic, compassion for the animals, and wonderful connection with our guests makes Haley the perfect candidate for Slick's Tremendous Trainer Award!  We took a few minutes to sit down with Haley to talk about her experience as a trainer at Oceans of Fun.

When did you begin at Oceans of Fun?
My life at Oceans started when I was an intern in 2006. I really loved the experience and wanted to learn more about the animals and the job…and the people were really great too! I continued to volunteer and was hired in 2008 as an Educator. In 2009 I was fortunate enough to be offered a training position with Oceans and have been here ever since!

Why do you love your job?
I really love being able to see each animal’s face everyday; they are so much fun to watch and work with! Everyday is a learning experience and I enjoy being able to take what I learn and show that off in our shows and interactive programs for all of our guests!

What is your favorite part of your day at Oceans of Fun?
Working with the animals, of course! It is so cool to see the relationship between you and each animal grow through training and working with them. I also really enjoy training new behaviors. Seeing that light bulb moment when the animal figures out what you are asking of them is incredible and being able to see and perform the finished behavior is extremely rewarding!

What is one of your most memorable moments so far as part of the Oceans of Fun team?
There are so many great memories that I have had at Oceans and that is thanks to the fabulous group of ladies that I work with. We always have a great time together; whether it is the Christmas party, just a fun girls’ night out, walking around ala carte, unloading a fish delivery or celebrating at our end of summer party.
